AFST(I) Annual Awards - 2024
The Association of Food Scientists & Technologists, India [AFST(I)], Mysuru and the Thanjavur Chapter of AFST(I) organized the 31st Indian Convention of Food Scientists & Technologists – 2025 (31st ICFoST 2025) at the National Institute of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship and Management – Thanjavur (NIFTEM-T), Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu during December 18-20, 2025. This food convention was organized in association with NIFTEM-T; CSIR-Central Food Technological Research Institute (CSIR-CFTRI), Mysuru; Defence Institute of Bio-Defence Technologies – DRDO (DIBT-DRDO), Mysuru; and CSIR-Indian Institute of Toxicological Research (CSIR-IITR), Lucknow. The knowledge partners of 31st ICFoST were CSIR-National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (CSIR-NIIST), Thiruvananthapuram; Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi; and Association of Toxicologists and Risk Assessors (India) – ASTRA, Lucknow.

Fellow of AFST(I) – There were two awardees, (i) Dr. R. Kumar, Centre Head, Defence Institute of Bio-Defence Technologies – DRDO (DIBT-DRDO), Mysuru, Karnataka and (ii) Dr. Pradeep Singh Negi, Chief Scientist & Head, Fruits & Vegetable Technology, CSIR-Central Food Technological Research Institute, Mysuru, Karnataka. Both the awardees were presented, individually with Silver Plaque and a Citation.
Prof Carl Hoseney Award – The awardee was Dr. Dadasaheb Dattatraya Wadikar, Scientist F & Head, Grain Science Technology Division, CSIR-Central Food Technological Research Institute, Mysuru, Karnataka. The award included a Silver Plaque and citation.
Prof Jiwan Singh Sidhu Award – The awardee is Dr. Raju Sasikumar, Associate Professor, Department of Agri-Business Management and Food Technology, North-Eastern Hill University, Tura Campus, Chasingre 794002, Meghalaya. The award included a Silver Plaque and citation.
Dr J.S. Pruthi Award – The awardee was Dr. Jyoti Nishad, Scientist (Food Technology), ICAR-Directorate of Cashew Research, Puttur 574202, Karnataka. The award included a Silver Plaque and citation.
Dr D.B. Wankhede Excellence Award – The awardee was Dr. Vinod Kumar, Professor & Head, Graphic Era University (Deemed to be University), Dehradun 248002, Uttarakhand. The award included a Silver Plaque and citation.
Prof Gurcharan Singh Bains Award – The awardee was Dr. Kirtiraj Kundlik Gaikwad, Associate Professor, Department of Paper and Packaging Technology, Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee 247667, Uttarakhand. The award included a Silver Plaque and citation.
Subhash Bhatnagar Memorial Award – There were two awardees, (i) Dr. Ashwath Kumar, K, Senior Technical Officer, Flour Milling, Baking and Confectionery Technology, CSIR-Central Food Technological Research Institute, Mysuru, Karnataka and (ii) Mr. J.H. Lakshmana, Technical Officer ‘C’, Defence Institute of Bio-Defence Technologies – DRDO (DIBT-DRDO), Mysuru, Karnataka Both the awardees were presented, individually with Silver Plaque and a Citation.
Low-Cost Technology Development – The awardee was Dr. Sandeep Mann, Principal Scientist & Head, Agriculture Structures & Environmental Control, ICAR-Central Institute of Post-Harvest Engineering & Technology, Ludhiana 141001, Punjab. The award included a Silver Plaque and citation.
Young Scientist Award – The awardee was Ms. Hansika Sati, DST-INSPIRE Doctoral Fellow, National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management, Kundli (NIFTEM-K), Kundli, Sonipat 131028, Haryana. The award included a Silver Plaque and citation.
AFST(I) – FSSAI Award – The awardee was Dr. Bhaskar Narayan, Director, CSIR-Indian Institute of Toxicological Research, Lucknow 226001, Uttar Pradesh. The award included a Silver Plaque and citation.
Shri M.M. Chitale Memorial Award (For Best Startup’s) – The awardee was Dr. D. Mathur, Managing Director, M/s. Fare Labs, Gurugram 122001, Haryana. The award included a Silver Plaque and citation.
Dr. K.R. Bhattacharya Memorial Travel Grant – The recipient was Mr. Thoithoi Tongbram, Ph.D. Scholar, AICTE – National Doctoral Fellowship, Department of Food Engineering and Technology, Tezpur University, Tezpur 784028, Assam. The grant included a Certificate and Cheque of ₹20000/-.
Best Student Award – The awardees were (i) Mr. Arnav Bayan, Tezpur University, Tezpur, Assam (ii) Ms. Ayushi Bhaduri, Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai, Maharashtra and (iii) Ms. Smrithi, M.O.P. Vaishnav College for Women, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The award to the individual students included a Certificate and Cheque of ₹10000/-

AFST(I)-FSSAI Award-2023
For contributions in the field of Food Safety
Association of Food Scientists and Technologists (India) [AFST(I)] and Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has introduced the AFST(I)-FSSAI award for the contributions in the field the of Food Safety. The award was instituted to encourage distinguished Scientists and Technologists for their contributions in the area of Food Safety. Applications / Nomination are invited from Government / Private / Semi Government Sector/NGOs personnel.
Eligibility Criteria:
The award will be given to the professionals, who have made notable contribution in the area of Food Safety that has an impact on commercial, legal, social, food safety standards for the betterment of human health. The contribution(s) shall be for the work under taken in India during the last 5 years preceding the year of award. The contributions listed in applications shall be accompanied with appropriate document to justify the claims.

Best Performance Chapter of AFST(I) Award:
