AFST(I) Annual Awards - 2024
The Association of Food Scientists & Technologists, India [AFST(I)], Mysuru and the Thanjavur Chapter of AFST(I) organized the 31st Indian Convention of Food Scientists & Technologists – 2025 (31st ICFoST 2025) at the National Institute of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship and Management – Thanjavur (NIFTEM-T), Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu during December 18-20, 2025. This food convention was organized in association with NIFTEM-T; CSIR-Central Food Technological Research Institute (CSIR-CFTRI), Mysuru; Defence Institute of Bio-Defence Technologies – DRDO (DIBT-DRDO), Mysuru; and CSIR-Indian Institute of Toxicological Research (CSIR-IITR), Lucknow. The knowledge partners of 31st ICFoST were CSIR-National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (CSIR-NIIST), Thiruvananthapuram; Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi; and Association of Toxicologists and Risk Assessors (India) – ASTRA, Lucknow.
The awardees of AFST(I) Annual awards - 2024 were as follows:
Fellow of AFST(I) – There were two awardees, (i) Dr. R. Kumar, Centre Head, Defence Institute of Bio-Defence Technologies – DRDO (DIBT-DRDO), Mysuru, Karnataka and (ii) Dr. Pradeep Singh Negi, Chief Scientist & Head, Fruits & Vegetable Technology, CSIR-Central Food Technological Research Institute, Mysuru, Karnataka. Both the awardees were presented, individually with Silver Plaque and a Citation.
Prof Carl Hoseney Award – The awardee was Dr. Dadasaheb Dattatraya Wadikar, Scientist F & Head, Grain Science Technology Division, CSIR-Central Food Technological Research Institute, Mysuru, Karnataka. The award included a Silver Plaque and citation.
Prof Jiwan Singh Sidhu Award – The awardee is Dr. Raju Sasikumar, Associate Professor, Department of Agri-Business Management and Food Technology, North-Eastern Hill University, Tura Campus, Chasingre 794002, Meghalaya. The award included a Silver Plaque and citation.
Dr J.S. Pruthi Award – The awardee was Dr. Jyoti Nishad, Scientist (Food Technology), ICAR-Directorate of Cashew Research, Puttur 574202, Karnataka. The award included a Silver Plaque and citation.
Dr D.B. Wankhede Excellence Award – The awardee was Dr. Vinod Kumar, Professor & Head, Graphic Era University (Deemed to be University), Dehradun 248002, Uttarakhand. The award included a Silver Plaque and citation.
Prof Gurcharan Singh Bains Award – The awardee was Dr. Kirtiraj Kundlik Gaikwad, Associate Professor, Department of Paper and Packaging Technology, Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee 247667, Uttarakhand. The award included a Silver Plaque and citation.
Subhash Bhatnagar Memorial Award – There were two awardees, (i) Dr. Ashwath Kumar, K, Senior Technical Officer, Flour Milling, Baking and Confectionery Technology, CSIR-Central Food Technological Research Institute, Mysuru, Karnataka and (ii) Mr. J.H. Lakshmana, Technical Officer ‘C’, Defence Institute of Bio-Defence Technologies – DRDO (DIBT-DRDO), Mysuru, Karnataka Both the awardees were presented, individually with Silver Plaque and a Citation.
Low-Cost Technology Development – The awardee was Dr. Sandeep Mann, Principal Scientist & Head, Agriculture Structures & Environmental Control, ICAR-Central Institute of Post-Harvest Engineering & Technology, Ludhiana 141001, Punjab. The award included a Silver Plaque and citation.
Young Scientist Award – The awardee was Ms. Hansika Sati, DST-INSPIRE Doctoral Fellow, National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management, Kundli (NIFTEM-K), Kundli, Sonipat 131028, Haryana. The award included a Silver Plaque and citation.
AFST(I) – FSSAI Award – The awardee was Dr. Bhaskar Narayan, Director, CSIR-Indian Institute of Toxicological Research, Lucknow 226001, Uttar Pradesh. The award included a Silver Plaque and citation.
Shri M.M. Chitale Memorial Award (For Best Startup’s) – The awardee was Dr. D. Mathur, Managing Director, M/s. Fare Labs, Gurugram 122001, Haryana. The award included a Silver Plaque and citation.
Dr. K.R. Bhattacharya Memorial Travel Grant – The recipient was Mr. Thoithoi Tongbram, Ph.D. Scholar, AICTE – National Doctoral Fellowship, Department of Food Engineering and Technology, Tezpur University, Tezpur 784028, Assam. The grant included a Certificate and Cheque of ₹20000/-.
Best Student Award – The awardees were (i) Mr. Arnav Bayan, Tezpur University, Tezpur, Assam (ii) Ms. Ayushi Bhaduri, Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai, Maharashtra and (iii) Ms. Smrithi, M.O.P. Vaishnav College for Women, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The award to the individual students included a Certificate and Cheque of ₹10000/-
The awardees of AFST(I) Education and Publication Trust Scholarship, zone-wise of our country were as follows. The individual awardees were presented with a Certificate and Cheque of ₹30000/-.

Certificate of Appreciation – This was presented to the Winner of 31st ICFoST Logo Design, Mr. Sasidharan, C., Manakula Vinayagar Institute of Technology, Puducherry.
Certificate of Appreciation – This was presented to Dr. Sarfraj Ahmed, Scientist, CSIR-IITR, Lucknow for developing the “AASMaAn Web Portal Link” for online submission and evaluation of various AFST(I) Annual Awards – 2024.

The association has pleasure in inviting nomination from people to be conferred as “Fellow of Association of Food Scientists and Technologists (India)” [FAFST]. This is to honour those who have made significant contributions to the progress of Food Science / Technology.
Eligibility:
- The aim is to honour people of outstanding merit who have contributed significantly in the field of Food Science /Technology including R & D, product/project development, transfer of technology and marketing. The merit of contribution will be the main criterion.
- Among the Fellows to be nominated every year, 70% could be from AFST(I) members and remaining 30% may be from non-members
Nominations:
- Central Executive Committee members of AFST(I) are not eligible to be nominated as a Fellow.
- The nomination should be proposed by 5 AFST(I) members who have held the membership for a minimum of 5 years or by 2 Fellows of the Association.
- Any regular or life member of AFST(I) can propose the nomination for only one Fellow in a particular year. The nomination letter must contain sufficient justification for conferring the coveted fellowship on the candidate proposed.
- Four Copies of brief bio-data of the nominee highlighting the Scientific or Technological achievements in the area of Food Science / Technology, supported by a list of publications or other achievements all together not exceeding 10 pages and 1 copy of Self Evaluation Score Sheet (Form-A, available at www.afsti.org under ‘Awards’) along with supporting documents must accompany the nominations.
- Form - B is to be additionally filled in for industry contribution, if any.
Selection of Fellows:
The nominations received will be placed before an expert committee, appointed by the CEC for suitable recommendations. CEC by majority decision will finalize the names of Fellows for each year limited to maximum of 2 numbers. The decision of CEC in this matter will be final.
Privilege of Fellow:
The Fellow shall be entitled to the following rights:
- The awardee will be entitled to add FAFST after their name as short title.
- To be present and vote at all general body meetings.
- To propose and recommend the candidates for Fellow of the Association.
- To receive gratis copies of one of the publications of AFST(I).
- To fill any office of AFST(I) duly elected.
- To be nominated to any committee of AFST(I).
- To offer papers and communications to be presented before the meeting of the Association.
- The title will remain for life time of the member.
Cessation of Fellow:
- Any Fellow may resign from their title of the Association by signifying their wish to do so by a letter addressed to the Hon. Secretary, AFST(I), which will be placed before the CEC for acceptance.
- If the Association comes to know of any activity of fellow, which is detrimental to the interest and well being of the Association, the CEC will have the right to withdraw the title.
Conferring as Fellows:
The Fellow will be conferred with a Citation at the time of the AGBM or at any other suitable function of the Association.
The Association may invite a Fellow, to deliver special lectures in the area of their specialization either at the AGBM or any other function arranged by the AFST(I).

ATTENTION STUDENTS
Applications are invited for AFST(I) Education and Publication Trust Scholarship from the students, who are in the Final year of Post-Graduation (2023-24) regular course in Food Science/Technology. Prospective Students may download the Form-H (Application Form) and Form – G (Self Evaluation Score sheet for Scholarship) from the website: www.afsti.org under ‘Awards’.
- There will be minimum 2 Awards for each geographical ZONE of our country (Total of minimum 12 scholarships). ZONE wise list is appended below.
- Please note that only a maximum of 2 applications should be forwarded by an Institute / Organization. If any Institute / Organization forwards more than 2 applications, all the applications could be rejected.

For contributions in the field of Food Safety
Association of Food Scientists and Technologists (India) [AFST(I)] and Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has introduced the AFST(I)-FSSAI award for the contributions in the field the of Food Safety. The award was instituted to encourage distinguished Scientists and Technologists for their contributions in the area of Food Safety. Applications / Nomination are invited from Government / Private / Semi Government Sector/NGOs personnel.
Eligibility Criteria:
The award will be given to the professionals, who have made notable contribution in the area of Food Safety that has an impact on commercial, legal, social, food safety standards for the betterment of human health. The contribution(s) shall be for the work under taken in India during the last 5 years preceding the year of award.
