Dr. M.C. Varadaraj

Dr. M.C. Varadaraj is the Retd. Chief Scientist from CSIR-Central Food Technological Research Institute, Mysuru and presently, Research Advisor at the Schevaran Innovation Centre, Schevaran Labs. Pvt. Ltd., Mysuru. Since Mar. 2019, Hon. Professor at the Karnataka State Rural Development & Panchayat Raj University, Gadag with teaching assignment for the students of M.Sc. (Food Sci. Tech.) as well BoS & BoE related activities.

Academically, Varadaraj completed M.Sc. (Botany) from Bangalore University in 1976 by securing First Rank and Gold Medal and Ph.D. in Dairy Microbiology in 1982 at the National Dairy Research Institute, Bengaluru. He entered the dairy profession in 1984 by serving the AMUL Dairy, Anand as Sr. Supdt. (Tech.) for 3 plus years and in 1987 joined CFTRI, Mysuru as Scientist in the Dept. of Microbiology & Sanitation.

In a span of 28 plus years at CSIR-CFTRI progressively moved ahead in the scientific position reaching the senior-most level of Chief Scientist. During the tenure at CFTRI, Dr. Varadaraj had multi-functional contributions of R&D, academia, administrative, international linkages, events conducting & related towards the betterment of Institute and student community as the Head, Human Resource Development. Equally, Dr. Varadaraj has efficiently performed in guiding students to their Ph.D. degrees, research publications, grant of national & international patents, commercialization of developed process, presentation in scientific forums and invited talks.

Dr. Varadaraj was awarded the UNU-KIRIN Fellowship (1995-96) at the National Agriculture Research Centre, Tsukuba, Japan. He was also the recipient of Laljee Godhoo Smarak Nidhi Award, 1998 of the Association of Food Scientists and Technologists (India) for the outstanding contributions in Microbiology.

As Research Advisor at Schevaran Labs, Dr. Varadaraj is focussed on building the IPR portfolio of Schevaran, a leading pan-India brand manufacturer of cleaning & hygiene formulations.
